No Urban Dictates
hat tip: Warren Ballentine and the Power
This story first broke waaaaay back in 1998 when Tavis Smiley and Tom Joyner took on Katz Media Group when it was discovered that advertising companies were instructing their sales staff not to do business with Black radio. In 1999 they took on CompUSA for it's lack of advertising with Black media eventually compelling both companies into agreeing to redress the issue. Kofi Asiedu Ofori completed a study for the Federal Communications Commission entitled,
On December 18, 2007 the FCC adopted "Rules to Promote Diversification of Minority Ownership". This included ground breaking civil rights legislation putting an end to what it calls No Ethinic Dictates. Radio show host Warren Ballentine believes that this new mandate needs to be monitored by truthfighters
everywhere and is calling on his listeners to monitor urban radio stations for advertisers willing to invest in Black media.
