Mayor Doug Wilder: Richmond is better off today than a few years ago

H/T:  Rivercityrapids

The State of the City is promising.  However, Jon Bailes also includes  a tale of two cites here.  Take a look at both to get a complete picture of the current state of the River City.

State of the City Is A Good One And Getting Better

The Mayor asked on Saturday if Richmond is better off than it was a few years ago.

His answer was an unequivocal yes and I would mostly agree.

That doesn't mean there isn't more to do because the list of things that needs to be done still far outdistances the list of what has been accomplished. But we are off to a running start.

I won't go into all of what he talked about, you can read about it on Richmond.com or the Times-Dispatch, or view the entire text of the speech here.

A few highlights he mentioned were of course, the reduction in crime. Overall it is down 22%, the lowest in 26 years, police are clearing 82 of cases when the national average is just 60%.
