One of My Heroes

The EldersTheelders

I have to say that in my heart I pray that one day Africa will be one nation.  In truth though, that comes from naiveté.  Mostly, I would like to see credible leadership and self-determination for African people in the near future.  Let's see if this is a step in the right direction.

Mandela unveils 'council of elders'

the group but is under house arrest in her homeland [EPA]

Nelson Mandela has marked his 89th birthday by forming a "council of elders" dedicated to finding new ways to resolve some of the world's longest-running crises.

Introducing William KamKwamba

William_headshot Windmill_electricity_article_1106_s There is a blogger in Malawi, Africa who deserves our attention and support.  His name is William KamKwamba and he is from Mastala Village in Kasungu.  He has made international fame for his use of a homemade windmill, a bicycle, and a battery to power his entire home (4 lights, 2 radios, and a cell phone charger!).

I have invited William to share his experience with us in the Afrospear.Malawi_2

TED Conference in Africa

Hat Tip:  BlogAfrica

The ongoing Ted Global conference in Arusha Tanzania that is parallel to the G8 summit in Germany, ought to apply African solutions worth spreading to the African problems

Afrimedia: Africa's most valuable asset

Africa's youth is the most valuable resource our economic markets  have. The youth becomes even more valuable once their ideas, creativity and vision for themselves and nation are let loose.
To allow them to manifest their charm, charisma, wit and love for their country and fellow countrymen is the key for a continent looking to exert  strength, determination, stamina and the right to dream.
The ongoing Ted Global conference in Arusha Tanzania that is parallel to the G8 summit in Germany, ought to apply African solutions worth spreading to the African problems.

Let's hope than the cluster of Entrepreneurs,Bloggers,Business people,Influencers,Communicators,Investors would open wide the doors of possibilities , where all that is asked from the young & bright is to dare to dream and perseveringly apply themselves.

I've been impressed with this organization, which is essentially a think-tank.  I went up on YouTube and found a Clinton talk from March of 2007 and something by Anna Devavere-Smith.  Both are worth listening to.

Discrepancy Even Among Criminal Justice for Dictators?

Hat tip:  Kola at Community Nigeria.

Here's a hit from one of the brothers over at BlogAfrica.

African War Crimes:Forgiveness if you're White, The Hague if you're Black!

    Africa | Foreign Politics

The trial of Charles Taylor has been greeted with the usual lazy banalities about there being no place to hide any longer for Africa’s murderous dictators. What is missing from the cosy narrative is the contrasting treatment meted out to black African war criminals as against their equally blood stained white counterparts from the same continent.
